Lucy Wright

Happiest when outside.

A Londoner by birth meant that her journey to the wild outdoors wasn't entirely direct.

Several years ago, she found herself working as a headhunter in the city, partying, running in the hamster wheel and escaping at the weekends to the countryside with a nagging thought that wouldn’t go away, “is this it?”

She met someone (her now fiancée) who lived a very different lifestyle, in a very different environment and it sparked a seed; it felt like the world grew with possibilities. She spent increasing amounts of time in nature: walking, cycling, trying to feel the earth beneath her feet as much as possible. People commented that she was becoming a hippie.

A year of mulling and ruminating ensued where she built up the courage to follow what her heart already knew. It was time to leave London, she realised that she was happiest and at her most authentic when surrounded by nature.

A not-entirely-planned move to North Wales followed and the positive impact on her wellbeing is apparent. It hasn’t all been easy or smooth but it has definitely been worthwhile. Now living in the beautiful Forest of Dean, nestled next to the Wye Valley she is surrounded by nature.

Lucy set up Make+Move to encourage others to embrace these aspects of life – to move, to think, to gain perspective – and in so doing, connect more deeply with themselves.

A degree in Sports Science combined with managing outdoor events and years of playing outside - swimming, running, rolling in the grass - have given Lucy an appreciation of the combined power of nature and movement. An avid cold-water swimmer, her certifications include: Yoga teacher (200hr Yoga Alliance + 200hr Katonah Yoga - one of the few in the UK), UK Athletics Running Leader, MovNat Coach L1, Mountain Leader (Summer training) and student of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).

Whilst we don't expect you to quit your job and up sticks to the countryside, perhaps a little time spent embracing the principles of Make+Move will give you the opportunity to greater appreciate these areas of life. You too might become a hippie.

and then you will understand
everything better
