Everything is a part

of Something

MAKE + MOVE

Katonah Yoga through its’ origins in Taoism shows us that everything is a part of something else: a minute is a segment of an hour, which is a portion of the day and a piece of the year.

So how we experience one facet influences it all.

We are a fractal of the whole.

This practice makes clear that to embody one experience informs how we embody all experiences. Our yoga mat is a mirror to everything else and how we spend our time upon it can ripple both outwards and inwards.

What is Katonah Yoga®?

Katonah Yoga® is a blended practice developed by Nevine Michaan in New York more than 40 years ago. It references classical Hatha poses alongside Traditional Chinese Medicine and Daoist Philosophy.

We use sacred geometry, metaphors and visualisation to inform the practice, to communicate effectively and create an embodied experience.

What this means is that it’s familiar with unfamiliar twists: the shapes are things you’ve seen before (perhaps with more props) and the language - descriptions, cue, suggestions - might be different.

If you’re drawn to nature, like stories, imagery and have a curiosity - then this is probably for you.

What can you expect?

During our 2 days together, we’ll spend time both on and off the mat as we go through what Katonah Yoga is, its’ guiding principles and breakdown one of its’ key metaphors that treats the body as a house. Both days will have a 90min physical practice in the morning and a slightly shorter session in the afternoon, around which we’ll discuss theory and philosophy. This will be a highly interactive training where your input is truly valued.
