WILD WINTER Retreats *

A really transformative and wonderful space.

Embrace Winter

Where better to embrace Winter than Sweden?

Big skies, dense forests, lakes, sauna culture and of course - hygge.

Winter is the time for stillness, reflection & dreaming.

And these retreats will give you space for all of these.

WILD WINTER I: 15-18 Jan 2026

WILD WINTER II: 22-25 Jan 2026

Both offer the same programme.

Take your pick.

Step in to the cold, try something new, find new depths.

Connect back to now

we need to rewild.

Much of our lives are cocooned, wrapped up, separated.

We live in heated houses, wear thermal clothes, eat processed foods. We rub along next to each other & yet still feel alone. Separate. Disconnected.

This retreat is a calling back. Back to connection. Back to your essence. Back to your true nature.

This is your rewilding.

I had an amazing time at the Wild Winter retreat – my first experience with an organised retreat, and I’m so glad I chose this one!

The location

We’ll be staying at the renowned Shambala Gatherings, a retreat centre established on Buddhist principles and run on this basis. Easily reached by public transport or car, just two hours west of Stockholm in Skinnkatteberg (pron: Shins-catter-bai). Surrounded by forest and lakes in the heart of the countryside this is well worth the journey.

Accommodation is simple and shared in a variety of twin rooms and the overriding ethos is of communion, sustainability and nature connection. The vibe is understated, welcoming and easy. Little affirmations and deities adorn rooms and soon enough, it feels like home.

A special aspect of Shambala is how much care they put in to the food; it is vegan, gluten free and Ayurvedic. It also serves as an opportunity to come together - for all that are involved in the running of Shambala to commune. Us lucky guests, the volunteers and other souls that keep the cogs turning gather each day to share meals and conversations.

We’ll be fully catered throughout our stay (3 meals a day) and enjoy a fika each afternoon (Swedish for small treat). Most dietary requirements can be catered for if notified in advance.

Everyone is welcome here. It’s the perfect place to rewild ourselves.

A cozy bedroom with two single beds, white bedding, floral pillows, a small wooden dresser, a window with white curtains, a flower vase, and wall-mounted lamps.
A spacious yoga or meditation studio with sunlight coming through windows, arranged in a circle with yoga mats, bolsters, and blankets, and a decorative altar in the center with candles, plants, and spiritual objects.
A spacious room set up for a yoga or meditation class with mats, bolsters, and cushions on a wooden floor, featuring large windows, white walls, and a ceiling with exposed wooden beams.

When first visiting Shambala Gatherings, the part that stole my heart was the huge lake. At this time of year it’ll be frozen and so forming part of your retreat is Cold Water Therapy.

Whether you’re a seasoned cold water dipper or total novice, full guidance is given, as well as advice & support in advance in order to safely prepare

COLD WATER

Rewilding is a restoration of ecosystems and natural processes. Often applied to forestry, we can apply the same thinking to ourselves: what is our natural state? How and where do we flourish?

To answer these questions we’ll spend time in movement to shift things - ideas, energy, obstacles. There’ll be opportunity to challenge - using cold water perhaps. And there’ll be time to reflect & rest.

Alongside all of this is time to come together, share & witness through Circle, meals & ample time along the way.

It wouldn’t be a rewilding without time in nature and believe me - this is the place for it.

REWILDING

A group of people sitting around a campfire at night, wearing warm clothing and some with hats, with drinks in cups placed on the ground in front of them.
A person standing on snow-covered ground with tall pine and deciduous trees in the background under a bright blue sky with some clouds.

A Sauna Ritual elevates the sauna experience. Held by an experienced and qualified Sauna Master, these provide opportunity to go deeper.

Referencing sauna traditions and honouring the natural world, these are immersive experiences.

If you’ve never been guided on a sauna journey before then you’re in for a treat!

SAUNA RITUALS

Black and white graphic with the words 'mom' in playful font, a heart, and a plus sign, expressing love for moms.

There’ll be twice daily yoga practices in the dreamy Shala. A morning energising practise and an early evening calming practice to wind down and settle. These will draw heavily on Katonah yoga, Traditional Chinese Medicine and 5 Element Theory.

There’ll be breathwork, a sprinkling of vinyasa flow, restorative yoga and of course practices will be aligned with the natural rhythms so that they develop our connection with both nature and ourself.

Classes will cater to different abilities through variations and modifications, giving the chance to challenge yourself or go easy.

MOVEMENT

Wild Winter I

  • Lucy will be holding yoga sessions across both retreats and Sauna Rituals on WILD WINTER II (22-25 Jan).

Lucy started running retreats in 2018 utilising her 20+ years of experience within wellness & travel. She has led expeditions internationally, managed charity challenges and has a 1st Class degree in Sports+Exercise Science.

Years of travelling, movement, rewilding and seeking joy have woven together to create these retreats. The passion underlying it all is a desire to help people to connect more deeply: with themselves, the natural environment & each other.

The practices that she’ll share on these retreats will work with the energy of winter and the water element. Lucy will encourage you to lean in to the lesser reached parts of yourself; reflecting on previous patterns & experiences, challenging beliefs and asking poignant questions.

This retreat is borne out of Lucy’s own struggle with winter and her desire to live seasonally. So rather than escaping the depths of darkness, we embrace them.

  • Nick will be holding sauna rituals on the WILD WINTER RETREAT I 15-18 Jan 2026.

Nick’s connection to nature is well embedded. Kayaking, canoeing & surfing around the UK ignited a lifelong affinity with the water and a career as a tree surgeon & gardener established a foundation of respect & knowledge for the natural world.

Since qualifying as a massage therapist more than 10 years ago he has immersed himself in a whole new world of wellbeing practices & beliefs, from Ayurvedic philosophy to meditation, conscious breathwork & contrast therapies. This path & his watery affinity led him to discover sauna.

Over the last few years Nick has taken all of his previous experiences to the sauna. Becoming the UK’s Best Sauna Practitioner (UK Sauna Society 2025), guiding sauna rituals, blessings and ceremonies.

He guides intuitively from the heart using handmade whisks & homemade scrubs that he has foraged from the land. Always inspired by & working with nature.
